General Classroom Organisation
Please make sure all items of clothing and P.E. kit are clearly labelled, (preferably sewn-on labels), and make sure children have a warm coat/clothing to wear during the morning/afternoon breaks, lunch hour and outdoor P.E. sessions.
P.E./Games lessons are on Monday and Wednesday but, since we are not allowed to let any child participate in these sessions without the appropriate clothing and footwear, please make sure that your child’s P.E. kit is in school at all times during the week, though it can be taken home at the weekends for washing. If, for any reason, your child is unable to take part in a P.E. or Games lesson, please provide a note. It is also recommended that your child should keep two pairs of trainers in their P.E. bag, one pair of indoor trainers or plimsolls and a pair of trainers for outdoor use. This is especially beneficial during the winter months.
Library books will be changed on Thursday during Group Reading sessions. All library books will be collected in during the penultimate week of term.
Medicines
Children must not bring medicines of any kind into school without prior agreement with Ms. Hartley.
Homework
We value the support of parents in providing the time, encouragement and suitable environment for children to complete their homework and we would like to take this opportunity to thank you for all your help and support with these homework tasks. It is important that we have consistency in the classroom and all children are expected to complete and hand in their homework on time. In setting homework for children, we aim to provide a relevant activity for them to do, in which parents may be involved and which can aid their general educational progress. To help you assist your child with the organisation and completion of their homework tasks, a separate letter will be sent to you in due course, with details of your child’s class homework schedule.
The following are some examples of work to be completed at home:
Spelling, maths and literacy reinforcement activities; Writing
tasks; Development of personal reading habits; Science tasks;
any relevant Humanities work; Research tasks.
Later in the first Half Term, there will be an opportunity for you to attend a numeracy workshop, based on the four operations, and details will follow on separately.
Parent Consultations
There will be an early opportunity for you to discuss how your child has settled in to Year 5 at our parent consultation afternoon/evening on:
Wednesday 21st October between 4.00 – 6.30 pm
Thursday 22nd October between 5.00 – 7.30 pm
School Governor Class Link
In order that the school governors can gain closer links with the pupils and staff, we have attached a governor to each of the classes in the school. He/she will endeavour to make at least one visit to their class during the term and will support the class teacher by working with the children, sharing his/her expertise in a relevant area or accompanying a school visit.
Our class governor is Mrs. J. Searby.
Additional Information
Absence
Please ring the school on the first day of absence if your child is away. If we do not hear from you by 10 a.m., someone from the school will contact you. If there is a planned absence from school, parents are requested to fill in an application for leave of absence, (this form can be obtained from the school office and should be returned to
Ms. Hartley).
Homework Diaries
Homework diaries will be provided by the school for each child. These diaries are a very good way for children to organise their homework activities and school timetable and we would ask you to help and encourage your child to use them appropriately.
If you wish to discuss the content of this letter or have any other concerns, please contact Mrs. Baxter or Ms. Childs to make an appointment to see us.
Yours faithfully,
Mrs. Hutchison and Mrs. Armstrong,
Class Teachers.
